When it comes to mobile development nowadays you should consider these platforms: iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7/8. With iOS long enough on the market development cost is well known, and it is said to be quite high.

What you probably don't realize is that Android development can be–and often is–even more expensive.

Here's why:

  • You don't have to buy expensive Macintosh computer and software is available for free for Android developers, sure. But to properly test your creations you're forced to deal with huge number of devices.
  • iOS attrackted large number of developers creating a shift in the market, and leaving poeple with Android needs almost on ice few years ago. This situation changes all the time and it's getting easier and easier to find good Android developer, but since there aren't much of them, they tend to be pricey.
  • Android still lacks huge commercial success as iOS's Angry Birds, Instagram or dozens or other applications. Because of that it doesn't attrack young developers as other platforms.
  • Companies tend to postpone Android development (PressPad is no different here, unfortunaltelly) since customers don't push it that hard and there's little money on the market.

When it comes to developing on Android OS only realy first point metters. It isn't any harder than on other platforms, neither it does require magic skills.
